Pheromone Monitoring Lure for Plutella xylostella, Diamondback Moth

A common and widespread pest of crucifers. The pest importance varies considerably between regions. In areas where insecticide resistance has developed, damage can reach devastating proportions. Early instar larvae mine the leaves which later make small “windows” as they grow. High populations can defoliate plants. There can be many generations, often overlapping, in warmer countries depending on temperature.

Description

Directions for Use

The Delta trap is recommended for this species. The trapping season follows the growing season of the cruciferous crop. Traps should be deployed on stakes in the brassica crop on a stake at a height of approximately 1 metre and at least 50 metres apart. One trap per 1 hectare is recommended in large areas. A minimum of two traps should be used regardless of the field size.
Lures should be changed every 4-6 weeks. The sticky inserts should normally be changed when the lures are changed. In situations where high insect catches or dusty conditions have led to the deterioration of the glue surface the inserts should be changed. It is recommended that at each reading the trapped insects and any other debris be removed and the glue stirred with the plastic spatulas provided. Catches should be recorded weekly in when populations are low but more frequently in fields with high populations. Record the trap catch on a trap record sheet.

To avoid affecting the efficiency of the trapping system it is strongly recommended that traps be used for only the one species.
